Laos overview
Laos, the least populated of the Indochinese countries. The landscape is dominated by mountains, jungles and of course the Mekong River, which runs for 1800km along the western border of the country. With its calm, quaint feel, glittering temples, smiling locals and lush countryside, Laos is one of Asia's most alluring locales. A tradition-bound agrarian society with a staunch Buddhist foundation, it remains largely isolated from modernizing influences, and offers an opportunity to see the Southeast Asia of old.
